Sawyer Fredericks

Gasoline

Late last year we had the opportunity to work with Sawyer Fredericks, and to film his first music video since winning season 8 of The Voice. Needless to say, when an opportunity like this comes along, you say yes.
Sawyer is a native of upstate new york, and after years of playing open mic nights at Caffe Lena, busking on the sidewalk, and generally being very passionate for a music career, he had a blind audition on The Voice, in which three out of the four judges spun their chairs around after hearing him sing the opening line to “Man of Constant Sorrow”. Oh, and did we mention he was 16? Well, he was 16.

Fast forward a few years, and after winning that season of The Voice, Sawyer was free of any formal contract or record deal, and now a completely independent artist; something he takes great pride and happiness in.

After finding our previous stripped-down work with Sean Rowe & Girl Blue, his team contacted us with interest in filming a music video with similar vibes; simple and clean cut, featuring him and his band doing their thing. And after many creative talks about keeping this project local, production was set at The Glove Theater in downtown Gloversville, NY – the site of one of his very first performances, and a very important hometown connection.

Having been built in 1914, and subject to various restoration efforts over the years, The Glove was in a certain state of disrepair, yet, with its classic brick and mortar construction, with full size stage and rafter system, was the perfect setting for this music video.

With the release of his highly anticipated independent album Hide Your Ghost in Spring 2018, the music video for “Gasoline” premiered June 1st on Yahoo Entertainment, and shortly thereafter at The Glove itself, accompanied by a full band show, and serving as a fundraiser for restoration and sustainment efforts for the theater.

Stepping back after project completion, we’re very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Sawyer and his team. Check out the video below, and stick around for more stories of how our work comes to life.
