Our first collaboration with Dark Honey, a band formerly known as One Red Martian, based in Albany New York.

Usually, the first production with a new client takes more time than usual to get off the ground. There’s a learning curve when it comes to building relationships and rapport to the point where ideas are able to flow freely. Such was not the case with these guys. We quickly found we had a lot in common with the guys of Dark Honey; Jimi, Ben, and Joe – the Woodul brothers, as well as Dan Dekalb, their childhood friend. We bonded over the shared experience of growing up together and building upon some creative venture, us with film and them with music.

The project moved quickly; the band had put a lot of though into an initial idea and so the pre-production process sort of skipped conceptualization and moved directly into finding locations, hiring talent, and writing up a detailed account of how we planned to visualize the story. It would center around a boxer and follow him through a dream state where he fights his inner demons. Jimi would play the boxer, and our very talented friend Beth Slade plays his female opposite.

After several days of shooting and some weeks in the editing room, “Stinging Nettle” turned out great. Since it’s release, the song has been featured on Spotify’s new music Fridays playlist, and continues to garner attention. We feel extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with the talented guys of Dark Honey and I’m sure there will be more to come, as they continue to work on their next record.
